We are committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that we are demonstrating best practice at all times and that staff and patient safety is paramount. All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. A chaperone provides a safeguard for patients during an intimate examination and is a role filled by a member of the practice team, either from the clinical or administrative team. Patients can be reassured that all staff maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
We will always respect your privacy, dignity and your religious and cultural beliefs particularly when intimate examinations are advisable - these will only be carried out with your express agreement and you will be offered a chaperone to attend the examination with you if you wish. You may also request a chaperone when making the appointment or on arrival at the surgery (please let the receptionist know) or at any time during the consultation. A clinician also has the right to request a chaperone if they feel it necessary.
