Frequently Asked Questions
When will my results be back?
Blood tests and other samples are sent to the lab with the courier daily at 1pm.
Mosts test results will be returned to the practice within a couple of days. Results are returned to the GP who requested them for review and they will not be visible in your online record, or availble to be shared by the Admin team until they have been reviewed.
If you call us to find out, the Admin team will only be able to share results that have already been reviewed and can only share the comments left by the GP.
Will I be contacted with my results?
We do not routinely contact people regarding test results if they are normal.
If results indicate further action is required, the GP will ask the Admin team to contact you.
What is a Fasting Cholesterol Test?
Some blood tests give more useful results if you fast before the sample is taken. The vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins that make up all food and drinks can affect blood-level readings, clouding the results of your test.
- Your GP might suggest you have a fasting cholesterol test. Fasting means that from the night before your blood test, you must not eat anything. You will need to fast for 12 hours before your blood test.
- You can eat your dinner the night before your test.
- Do not eat breakfast on the morning of your blood test.
- You can only drink water on the morning of your test.
- Do not drink tea, coffee, or fizzy drinks (for example cola) on the morning of your test. This includes black coffee and sugar-free (diet) drinks.
- Do not chew gum or smoke on the morning of your test. This includes vaping and using nicotine patches.
Some basic safety precaustions to be aware of:
- You should not alter your medication routine unless you are told to do so by your doctor. If your medicine needs to be taken with food and this will interfere with the timing of your fasting blood test, please discuss this with your doctor.
- If you are diabetic, please speak to your doctor before you begin fasting for any test.
How do I get copies of my test results?
