Safeguarding

Safeguarding

Our Safeguarding lead is: Dr Rachel Willerton

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and aims to protect people's health, wellbeing and human rights, and enable them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.

Responsibilities for safeguarding are enshrined in international and national legislation. Moretonhampstead Medical Centre will fulfil their legal duties and statutory responsibilities effectively in accordance with safeguarding adult procedures of Torbay and Devon Safeguarding Adults Partnership (TDSAP) and the Devon Safeguarding Children Partnership.

How to raise a safeguarding concern

In the case of an emergency:
  • contact the Police on 999 if the person is in danger
  • contact the Police on 101 if the person is not in immediate danger
Worried about an adult (18+)
If you suspect that a vulnerable adult is being abused, or you are being abused yourself please contact the relevant authority by visiting Devon Safeguarding Hub.
Once you notify the local authority, they have a duty to respond appropriately, taking into account the views of the person concerned. They may initiate a safeguarding enquiry, or they may provide social care services or information and advice to help resolve the issue.

Worried about a child
If you think a child is at risk of significant harm or want to talk about your concerns about a child or family, you can contact the Safeguarding Children Partnership on 0345 155 1071. Calls are confidential and you can choose to remain anonymous. Lines are open Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-4pm.
If you need help outside of these hours or at weekends or bank holidays, please call the Emergency Duty Service on 0345 6000 388.
